VIDEO: Massive vessel collission

Hapag-Lloyd’s vessel Colombo Express collided on Monday morning, September 29th with containership Maersk Tanjong while entering the Suez Canal at Port Said. According to preliminary findings, there are no injuries and no damage has been done to the environment. 

Piracy Expected to Increase Ahead of Nigeria's Election



Piracy will increase in the Gulf of Guinea as Nigeria prepares for an election next February in order to funnel ransom money into campaign financing, intelligence experts told a shipping conference in Copenhagen on Tuesday.

Updated Anti-Piracy Guidelines on Gulf of Guinea Region

The Round Table of international shipping industry associations has released an updated version of ‘Guidelines for Owners, Operators and Masters for Protection Against Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea Region’. The Guidelines have been jointly developed by BIMCO, ICS, INTERTANKO and INTERCARGO.

Basic seafarer requirements

Ok, first thing first, to become a seafarer, you are required to do the basic mandatory courses which include
fire fighting
personal survival at sea techniques
first aid
personal safety and social responsibilities
 Note that this has been made compulsory by IMO(international maritime organisation) and is subsequently being enforced by NIMASA here in Nigeria
